Artist Statement #2

For this assignment, I wasn't entirely sure what to do. It seemed like I was working with a lot of similar sounds. Once I knew what I was working with, I downloaded a few of my favorite and threw a couple down on a track. When I started to move them around I made a sound that started with stepping to the shower, but seamlessly transitioned into turning off the sink and scrubbing some dishes. With that, I continued adding sounds that I thought might fade in and out just as seamlessly. To achieve this, I used a lot of the reverb effect and EQ. Once I felt that I had established a blissful scene and that the listener was relaxed, I started to sprinkle in controlled chaos. This was to convey the duality of consonance and dissonance that we see in everyday life.

I didn't really have a path while I was making this piece; I just felt it while I was composing it. My goal was for the listener to be immersed in the atmosphere of the song. There is no clear arrangement here, and there may be multiple climaxes, but I do think it takes the listener on a nice journey. One of my peers stated that at times he wasn't sure if what he was hearing was really in the room or not, so I think that goal might have been achieved. Next time, I probably won't end it that harsh.
