We see hundreds, if not thousands, of images every single day. Everywhere we look there are logos, advertisements, electronics, photos, etc. The rise of technology has been a large contributor to this. It's incredible that we have immediate access to infinite images at our fingertips. On the other hand, it has ruined our appreciation for art. We have become desensitized to it. We don't stop to look at images anymore we just glace at it and ignore it. Is it that it's an oversaturated market? There is a lot of talent in the world that people want to share. On the other hand, I think we lack education about it. We are taught about math, science, and writing but we lack education in fine arts. We are stripped of our creativity in many ways. Although society encourages creativity, we oftentimes can't fit it into our schedules due to the rest of society's demands. When I look at an image, I take it at face value. Maybe it's just me, but I only see what's directly apparent. Especially with abstract art, I am not often able to create a meaning out of it. The article that was assigned talked about how people lack visual literacy. I would have to agree with that. The only solution I can think of is focusing more on fine arts in school and allowing time for people to have a creative outlet. I fear, however, that we are going in the wrong direction as a group.
